Unpromised Tomorrow

Updated: Nov 21, 2024

January calendar with eucalyptus leaves and paper clips

The New Year is here but besides shifting one square over on the calendar, for you, nothing has changed.

Maybe you’re facing uncertain circumstances and the future looks bleak.

Maybe your anxiety is higher than ever and you don’t believe you’ll ever break free of its relentless hold.

Maybe you’re tired of feeling so alone all the time and wondering if people actually love you.

Maybe you have a list of New Years resolutions because, well that’s what your supposed to have right?

2024 is here. It has arrived. But there was nothing magical in the clock striking midnight.

On the flip side -

Maybe you’re experiencing a new excitement and eager for what the future holds.

Maybe your anxiety isn’t consuming you, and for the first time in forever you see hope on the horizon.

Maybe you’re shocked at the amount of people in your life and overwhelmed by the love they have for you.

Maybe you have a list of New Years resolutions and ready to get this year started!

2024 is here. It has arrive. And there is this new sense of wonder in your soul since the clocked stroked midnight.

Wherever you are.

Wherever you hope to go.

Whatever you're experiencing.

Whatever feelings are stirring within you.

Hold onto this:

Today —

Not tomorrow.

Not next week.

Not next month.

Not next year.

Today — is the day the Lord has made, let’s rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24).

I’m prone to jump ahead.

I become distracted by 'the what could be'.

I get caught up in my ever changing emotions.

I wonder when the next shoe will drop.

I hope for a better tomorrow.

But listen to what scripture whispers to us :

Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring—what your life will be! For you are like a vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes. (James 4:14 ESV)

None of us, no matter what we’re facing, knows if we will experience the shift from one square to the next on the calendar — new year or not.

No one is promised tomorrow.

But you do have right now — you do have this moment of today.

There may be nothing magical about the clock striking midnight, but there is a miracle in this moment because you are still here.

There is breath in your lungs.

There is blood pumping through your veins.

There is a beat to your heart.

In you, right now, is life.

For you, right now, there is today.

And today you can rest on these unchanging truths:

God is not finished with you yet. (Philippians 1:6)

God holds your life in His hands. (Psalm 63:8)

God will never leave or forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)

God is in control. (1 Chronicles 29:11-12)

God is your eternal hope. (Romans 15:13)

And if you are gifted with tomorrow, these truths remain the same because God doesn't change (James 1:17)

So, with each day you are graciously blessed with, I encourage you to rise with your mind set on these truths and heart centred on honouring the one and only God, who gave you today.

Seek His face in the morning and thank Him for your heart that's beating.

And may your heart be motivated by His great love for you, to genuinely love those you cross paths with.

Seek His face throughout the day and praise Him for the very breath in your lungs.

And may each breath remind you to speak the truth and use your words to build up those around you.

Seek His face before you close your eyes to sleep and bless Him for the life you lived today.

And may each moment of each day you have, be an offering back to Him; to esteem Him and proclaim His goodness to a world lost in an unpromised tomorrow.

With much love - Krista
