It’s All About God’s Love

Updated: Feb 13

With this month being the season of love, I’d like to redirect our hearts to three ways the One love that ran red redefines everything for us and has truly given us a reason to celebrate, not only on Valentines day but every single day of our lives.

God’s Love: Unfailing and Unconditional

I think this goes without saying, but it’s always such a timely reminder that God’s love is unfailing and isn’t based on anything we have done or can ever do for Him. It is a free gift that He has so graciously poured out on each and every one of us . . .

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Do these verses not capture the depth of God’s great love? Sacrificial, unconditional, redemptive, purse and unfailing. His love really is the great gift He lavished on us through the precious life of His dear Son. And it’s a beautiful reminder that Jesus didn’t come to the world to condemn it, but instead came to rescue what was lost.

One of the most humbling truths about God’s love, is that He extends it to the entire world —  not one person is excluded. During a season like Valentines day that puts such a heavy emphasis on love and what is looks like from a human perspective — may we as followers of Christ sit and relish in the perfect love that pursued us even when we were undeserving.

Romans 5:8

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

It’s incredible to think about the depth of God’s grace and mercy. His love isn’t dependent on our goodness (past, present or future) but solely on His character. While we were still broken, unworthy, messed up and far from Him — He chose to send Jesus who wiling gave up His life for us.

This incomparable sacrificial act shows us that God’s love truly is steadfast and it’s a humbling reminder that we are deeply loved not because we are perfect but because God is perfect and so is His love.

1 John 4:9-10

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Bible open to Isaiah 53:5b, "By His stripes, we are healed." Nearby: paint, markers, pencils on wooden table; artistic, reflective mood.

God made the first move. He reached down in tender care by sending Jesus to reconcile us to Him. These verses shifts our focus from a human expression of love to God’s perfect example.

His love is not transactional but transformative, offering us eternal life and a restored relationship with Him.

This perfect love calls us to live in awe of His grace and extend the same love to everyone around us. The mystery of the gospel has been revealed to us, our final destination has been switched from hell to heaven — and now it’s our turn to take what has been so graciously given to us and share it with the world.

God’s Love: Changes Who We Are

When we accept God’s free gift of salvation through Jesus and truly believe in what Christ did for us, it changes who we are. We are no longer defined by the world’s standards or the labels that are thrown at us by society. We put on an entirely new identity that is forever secure in Christ.

Here are some truths we can cling to and walk confidently in:

We Are Fully Known and Fully Loved By God

God’s love is not based on what we do but on who He is (Psalm 139:1-4). He knows every detail of our lives: our thoughts, our struggles, our confusion, or failures, our hurts and everything in between — and yet He still chooses to love us deeply.

Unlike the love we receive from other people, which can be conditional and/or fleeting, God’s love is constant and unchanging. This means we don’t have to strive for acceptance or try to earn His favour because we already have it in Him.

May we confidently walk in His love knowing that it is fully and freely given to us and will never be taken away from us.

Our Worth is Defined by God, Not the World

It’s so easy for us to try and find our validation in relationships, careers, social media or success, but none of these things will bring about true satisfaction. Unlike God, they are temporary. God’s love reminds us that our worth comes from being His child, created wonderfully in His image (Genesis 1:27).

No earthly achievement or failure can change the value He has placed on us. Knowing this allows us to live authentically, free from the need to seek approval from others because we are secure in our Heavenly Father.

May we confidently walk in His love knowing that our worth is not found in anything, but in Someone.

We are Redeemed and Made New

Through Christ’s sacrifice, we are not only loved but we are fully redeemed (Ephesians 1:7). We have been transformed from lost and broken to cherished and adored children of God. We no longer have to carry the weight of our past mistakes or let them define us.

God’s grace washes us clean and invites us into a new life filled with purpose and hope for the future. We are a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come. This we can rejoice in!

May we confidently walk in His love, knowing that we are forever redeemed and nothing can bring us back to who we were before Christ.

God’s Love: That Others May See Too

When we understand the depth of God’s love it transforms the way we live, changing how we are in our relationships, our actions and our attitude.

Here are some ways we can put God’s love on display daily:

Love Others Unconditionally

Remember, God’s love for us is not based on our performance but on His grace. We are called to love others in the same way — without conditions or expectations (John 13:34-25). This means extending love to those who may not deserve it, forgiving those who have hurt us, and seeking reconciliation if possible. Our love should mirror Christ’s sacrificial nature, by putting others before ourselves (Philippians 2:3-4) and treating them the same way Jesus has treated us.

Show Grace in Our Relationships

Just as God is patient and gracious with us, we are called to show grace to others. This could mean being slow to anger, quick to listen, and generous in forgiveness (Ephesians 4:2). Whether it’s with our spouse, children, friends, or coworkers, living out God’s love involves cultivating humility, compassion, and kindness in every interaction.

Serve Others as Christ Served

Jesus demonstrated His love through servanthood, even washing His disciples' feet (John 13:14-15). Living out God’s love means adopting a servant’s heart, seeking ways to meet the needs of those around us. This could be as simple as helping a neighbour, volunteering in the community, or offering encouragement to someone going through a hard time.

Be a Light in a Dark World

God’s love shines brightest in a world often marked by hate, division, and selfishness. We are called to be His ambassadors, bringing His love into every situation (Matthew 5:14-16). This means standing out by living counter-culturally—showing peace where there is conflict, joy where there is despair, and hope where there is doubt.

Share the Gospel

The ultimate expression of living out God’s love is sharing the good news of Jesus with others. When we experience His transformative love, it naturally overflows, and we desire others to know the same grace and salvation. Sharing the gospel doesn’t always require words—it can also be lived out through our actions and the way we love others (1 Peter 3:15).

I'll close by ending with a prayer. I encourage you to pray this for yourself:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your perfect, unconditional love that reaches us wherever we are. In a world that defines love by fleeting emotions and imperfect relationships, remind me daily of the depth and faithfulness of Your love. This love that was displayed to me so graciously through Jesus. Help me to rest in the truth that I am fully known and fully loved by You—not because of what I’ve done or will do, but because of who You are; and that is such a beautiful reality.

Lord, show me how to live out Your love in my words, actions, and attitudes. Help me to love others with the same grace, patience, and kindness that You have given to me. May I be a reflection of Your heart in my family, friendships, and community; shining Your light in a world that desperately needs to know You.

When I feel unworthy or overwhelmed, remind me that Your love is my anchor and strength. Draw me closer to You, Lord, so that my heart will overflow with gratitude and joy as I share Your love with those around me.

I praise You for the ultimate demonstration of love through the cross, and I commit to living a life that glorifies You. May everything I do point others to Your great love and amazing grace.

In Jesus’ name, I pray,

Amen.
